Poem/Song Analysis #1

Addie Ramonda
Period 3
Song/Poem Analysis

I chose to analyze the song Say Something by A Great Big World.
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would have followed you
Oh-oh-oh-oh say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something

I think that this song is about a man who is in love with someone that is dying or in a comma and can't respond to him. In the beginning of the song it's showing how much he loves her by saying that he would have followed her anywhere. Throughout the song the artist keeps repeating "say something, I'm giving up on you," which would lead you to believe that they are talking to someone who is not responsive. Towards the end of the song it says "And I'm saying goodbye Say something, I'm giving up on you And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you," I think they are saying I'm sorry that I couldn't save you and I'm letting go now because theres nothing else I can do. This song is really powerful and sad but I like it because it's relatable and real.
